The Great Patriotic WarThe Great Patriotic War began when Germany attacked Russia on June 22, 1941. For four difficult years, Russian soldiers bravely fought the enemy. The most important battle was at Stalingrad, where our army won in 1943.
The war ended on May 9, 1945 - Victory Day. Over 20 million Russians died protecting our country. Today we remember their courage every year on May 9th with parades, flowers for veterans, and fireworks.
People wear black-and-orange St. George ribbons to honor the heroes. We thank the soldiers who gave us peace and promise to never forget their sacrifice. Victory Day reminds us to value our freedom and protect our Motherland.
