Reading «Important Days of Russian History». Read the text, then answer the questions.

Important Days of Russian History

Long ago, the first Russian state was Kyivan Rus. Then, the Golden Horde came to rule.

Later, there were famous tsarsIvan the Terrible was a strong tsar. Peter the Great was a great tsar too. He loved to build new cities. He built St. Petersburg.

In 1812, Russia fought in Napoleon's War and won.

In 1917, the Revolution happened. The last tsar, Nicholas II, stopped to rule.

Then, World War II began. It was a big war. Many people fought. Russia won this war too. Now, every year on Victory Day (May 9), people remember the soldiers. They watch parades and fireworks.

After the war, Russia did something amazing! Yuri Gagarin became the first cosmonaut. He discovered space! He was a famous hero.

Russia has old symbols. The Kremlin and Red Square are in Moscow. Matryoshka dolls, birch trees, and the samovar are traditional too.

People in Russia love holidays. They celebrate the Old New YearDefender's DayWomen's Day, and Unity Day.

5.    Invent a new holiday. Draw a poster for it. Give it a name
Step-by-Step Guide how to create a new holiday:
Step 1: Choose Your Holiday's NameThink about nature, seasons, or famous Russian things.
Examples:

Day of the Samovar (Самовара)
Day of Matryoshka (Матрешки)
Day of Winter Sun (Зимнего Солнца)
Step 2: Draw a PosterYour poster must have:
1.    A title (the name of your holiday).
2.    A picture of the main symbol.
3.    2-3 simple sentences in English.
Step 3: Write Sentences (Use the helpers!)·        "People celebrate..." + (what they do)
·        "They eat..." + (special food)
·        "They say..." + (a special phrase)
·        "It is in..." + (summer / winter / spring / autumn)
Step 4: Present to the ClassSay: "Look at my poster! This is ______ Day. People celebrate..."

6.    Class Timeline. As a class, create a long paper timeline on the wall. Each student adds one picture or event Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1:
1.    Take a long list of paper
2.    Draw a horizontal line across it.
3.    Adds 4-5 key dates spaced out along the line:
-       862 (Kyivan Rus)
-       1703 (Peter the Great)
-       1945 (Victory Day)
-       1961 (First Cosmonaut)
Step 2:
4.    Choose an event to draw/describe:
-       Ivan the Terrible → draw a crown
-       Napoleon's War → draw a soldier
-       Space Race → draw a rocket
-       Modern Russia → draw a matryoshka/Kremlin
Step 3:
5.    Draw their event on small paper squares.
Must include:
-       Year (e.g., 1961)
-       1-2 English words (e.g., "Gagarin", "space")
-       Colourful picture
Step 4:
6.    Glue your event in correct place on the timeline.
7.    Tell your classmates about your event/person: "This is _____. It was in _____."
8.    Take photo of your great project!



7. "Who Am I?" Game 
Gameplay:1.    Choose one student to be the "guesser".
2.    Attach a picture card to his/her back (using a clip, tape on a headband, or just holding it up so the class can see).
3.    The guesser turns their back to the class, so everyone can see the card.
4.    The guesser asks the class Yes/No questions to find out who he/she is.
5.    After 3-5 questions, the guesser must try to guess their identity: "Am I...?"
You can be:
-       Peter the Great (with a ship or building)
-       Yuri Gagarin (with a rocket or spacesuit)
-       Ivan the Terrible (with a crown)
-       A WWII soldier (with a medal)
-       Tsar Nicholas II (with a map or book)
Rules:
1.    Questions to ask:
-       "Am I a...?" (tsar / cosmonaut / soldier)
-       "Did I...?" (build a city / fly to space / fight in a war)
-       "Was I...?" (famous / brave / from long ago)
2.    No shouting the name! Only answer "Yes" or "No".
3.    Ask about job, actions, or time.
4.    You can only ask 5 questions before you must guess.
Example dialogue:
Student (Guesser): "Am I a man?"
Class: "Yes!"
Student: "Did I fly to space?"
Class: "Yes!"
Student: "Am I Yuri Gagarin?"
Class: "Yes! Well done!"
